MAKANA BRICK NIGHT RACE - JUNE 2009
Makana Brick held their annual Nite Race last week. This 8km run was hosted and organized
by Albany Road Runners. Over 650 people entered the race with the winner, coming in just
after 25 minutes.
This race has become one of the biggest events on the Grahamstown calendar
and is very unique as each participant (runners and walkers) is given a pineapple. Every
third person received a spot prize donated by Makana Brick.

MILESTONE REACHED AT MAKANA BRICK - 30 OCTOBER 2007
Makana Brick, a R75 million investment project has reached a key milestone at
their Grahamstown plant. The German designed Hassler Kiln was lit for the first
time on the 30th of October 2007. The lighting of this ever lasting flame marks
the start of a revolutionized brick making industry in South Africa.
“Lighting the kiln is a sign of progress for us at Makana Brick, which
is the biggest single green fields project in the clay brick industry countrywide,”
says Colin Meyer, Managing Director at Makana Brick.
